Chaps are a working tool but also a personal statement. They should fit well, serve their purpose and make you smile when you put them on. With accurate measurements, custom chaps are sure to do just those things.

I can make batwing chaps, shotgun chaps, chinks, armitas, show chaps–you name it! Scroll to the bottom of the page to read more about chap styles, custom options and how it works.

Types of Chaps

Your new custom chaps should serve you well. The first step in this process is selecting the right type of chap for the job. Here are brief descriptions of just a few of the different types.

Batwing Chaps are full-length and fasten with clips or snaps around the thigh, leaving the lower half loose and full. Rodeo chaps are a great example of batwings. This style is also great for warm weather but when you still need full leg protection.

Shotgun Chaps get their name from their barrel-like appearance. They are full-length and closed around the leg from thigh to heel and often fasten with a zipper. These are great for cooler weather or for the working cowboy who needs full leg protection.

Chinks are a short style of chap that extends just below the knee, with fringe falling just above the ankle. With snap or buckle fasteners around just the thigh, chinks give you plenty of free movement in the calf while still offering upper leg protection and some grip.

Armitas are a Spanish-style chap characterized by a tie-on belt and fringe around the top, bottom and sides. They can be full or mid-length and fasten with snaps or buckles or be fully enclosed step-ins.

Show Chaps run the gambit of styles depending on your riding discipline. As the largest swath of color in your show wardrobe, chaps should complement your style and give a clean, finished look. Whether you’re looking for a shotgun style with fringe and a heel drop or you want colorful chinks, or anything in between, Castle Custom Leather would be happy to help you stand out in the arena.

Customizations

Your new custom chaps should also reflect you. I can fully customize the tooling on the belt, top and side pieces, add lettering or designs along the side of the leg, create twisted fringe, two-tone stitched-on fringe, and add pockets.

How it Works

If you’re interested in ordering a custom pair of chaps the first step is to request a quote. You can do this through my online form or by contacting me directly. We can talk about the type of chap you’re looking for, what kind of customizations you’d like and I’ll walk you through measurements. A good-fitting pair of chaps is only as good as the measurements I receive so it is very important you follow my measurement instructions exactly.
